Chambal River originates from ‘Janapav Hill’ of Mhow in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

The ancient name of this river is ‘Charmanvati’.

This river originates from “Janapav mountain” Bachu Pyat Mhow.

This river flows in the north and north-central part of India through Kota and Dholpur districts of Rajasthan, Dhar, Ujjain, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Bhind, Morena etc. of Madhya Pradesh.

The total length of Chambal river is 965 km.

In some places Chambal river is known as Kamdhenu.

Water keeps flowing in this river throughout the year, hence this river is also called perennial.

Banas, Kali Sindh, Shipra and Parvati are its main tributaries.

Chambal is the main tributary of river Yamuna.

The dams built on this river are Gandhi Sagar, Rana Pratap Sagar, Jawahar Sagar and Kota Barrage etc.
