World Hemophilia Day is celebrated every year on 17th April.
This Day was started by the World Federation of Hemophilia in 1989.
World Hemophilia Day is observed to raise public awareness about hemophilia.
Haemophilia or hemophilia is a genetic blood disorder in which the ability of blood to clot gets drastically reduced.
Date 17 April, was chosen to celebrate this day in honor of the founder of World Federation Hemophilia Frank Schnabel’s birthday.
This day also encourages people to collect funds for the treatment of this disease for those people who can’t be afford its treatment.
Every year, government, NGOs and civil communities organize awareness-raising campaigns and perform several activities to inform the general public about Hemophilia disease.
The theme of the event this year is “Access for All: Prevention of bleeds as the global standard of care”.
Various events are also organized by groups of people on this day.
A person which is suffering from Hemophilia bleeds spontaneously. After any injury or surgery.
A Hemophilia patient may bleed for longer than a healthy person.
Hemophilia has three forms namely Hemophilia A, B, and C. Out of these, Hemophilia A is the most common.
World Haemophilia Day focuses on the proper treatment and cares for Haemophilic patients.
