  • It is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July. 
  • It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. 
  • International Tiger Day has been created so that people around the world can raise awareness for tiger conservation. 
  • We can also use this day to support tiger conservation issues and to raise awareness. 
  • The goal of this day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.
  • Tigers lost 93% of their natural habitat due to the expansion of cities and agriculture by humans. 
  • Among the 13 tiger-range countries, India with 2226 has the highest number of tiger population. 
  • Tiger is the largest cat species with dark vertical stripes on beautiful red orange fur. 
  • They are predators by nature and hunt on animals like deer, rabbits, and buffalo’s etc. Unfortunately, tiger population in this world in fast disappearing. 
  • Every part of tiger from tail to skin to nail is traded in the illegal market for very high values, which makes tigers vulnerable to poaching, one of the key threat to their existence.
  • 97 percent of the world tiger population perished in the last 100 years and according to the latest statistics about 3890 tigers are left in this world, out of which about 2226 are in India. 
  • The main objective of International Tiger Day is to promote to all countries about the protection of the great species and expansion of areas for the wild tigers.
