10 Lines on World Disability Day

World disability Day is celebrated every year on 3 December.

It is also known as International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Since 1992, the United Nations started celebrating December 3 every year as ‘World Disability Day’.

This day was started to eradicate the wrong social feeling towards the disabled and to improve their way of living.

The United Nations General Assembly had declared the year 1981 as the ‘International Year for Persons with Disabilities’.

After that, the decade of 1983-92 was declared as the ‘International Decade for Persons with Disabilities’.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 15.3% of the world’s population suffers from some form of disability. Thus it is the world’s largest ‘invisible minority group’.

The important goal of celebrating this day is to increase the awareness and understanding of people towards the issue of disability of persons with disabilities.

In order to increase the love and respect towards disabled people, they are being called ‘Divyang’ in India.

The main purpose of this day is to make the society aware to help the disabled to achieve self-respect, welfare and security.

Another objective of World Disabled Day is to promote the role of disabled people in the society and reduce poverty, provide equal opportunity and help them with proper rehabilitation.

The theme for world disability Day 2022 is “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world.”
